About the Download

Select an approach to qualitative analysis, coding and analyses and create the final project paper. This should demonstrate your understanding of qualitative research and should be edited and revised according to feedback previously received.
Describe your phenomena, the approach you have selected, develop three research questions pertaining to your phenomena, and describe why that approach would be well suited to your topic. Include details on methodology, data coding and analysis, as well as any quality, credibility or ethical issues that may be involved. Support your findings with relevant existing research. Submit your response as a Microsoft Word document. All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.

Research Questions Developed
1. What is the number of reading levels students increased by after receiving the Corrective Reading Programs three times a week for 45 minutes per session over nine consecutive months?
Phenomenon
The phenomenon that will be studied is economically disadvantaged African American males in the elementary special education setting who are one or more years below in reading.
Purpose
The purpose of this case study will be to discover the relationship between the Corrective Reading Program to efficiently assist students in improving reading comprehension and decoding for African American boys in special education at Montgomery County Public Schools located in Rockville, MD.
Background
Corrective Reading (CR) is a highly intensive intervention curriculum, across multiple school contexts and with diverse samples of students. Corrective reading is a standardized measure which scores vocabulary and comprehension skills. This remedial reading program provides direct instruction to address deficiencies in decoding and comprehension. The CRP is designed for small group instruction (i.e. four to five participant grades three to adult) and is primarily used as an intervention program for special education students. However, CR can be used in the general education setting.
Sample Size Used
The researcher’s phenomenological study design will involve 5 CR instructors and 15 fifth grade students from Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) in Rockville, Maryland reading one or more years below grade level and receiving CR instruction. This study will consist of interviews (i.e. students and teachers) after teaching or receiving CR over nine consecutive months four times a week for 45 minutes per session.
